In a few weeks the world's best from the United States and Europe will compete in the latest edition of the Ryder Cup, but on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, it was a group of 25 Trumansburg Golf Club members and frequent golfers who went head-to-head in a Ryder Cup-style tournament. In the end, it was Team Smith defeating Team Hohwald, 12 1/2—11 1/2, in an one-day, 27-hole showdown.

Sherman knocked off Jared Smith (1-Up), while Snyder eased to a 2&1 win over Oscar Larson. The advantage was short lived, however, as Team Smith charged back with three straight wins by Matt Watson, Nathan Scheer and Wilsea. Watson took down the opposing team's captain, Corey Hohwald (2-Up), while Scheer won by the same margin over Gregg Weatherby,

After the first 12 matches, which featured six captain & mate and six two-person best ball match-ups, the contest was tied at six points apiece. Team Smith took the morning Captain & Mate matches by winning 3.5 points, but Team Hohwald matched its foe with 3.5 points in the best ball matches.

Key points were collected by Team Smith's Mike Weaver and Reynolds, which trailed by one with two to play in the Captain & Mate portion of the contest and comeback to earn 1/2 point thanks to a birdie on Hole No. 17. In the same session, Team Smith's Kevin Manheim and Larson earned a 1-Up victory over Scott Beardsley and Downey, while teammates Wilsea and Purdy had the same type of victory over Team Hohwald's Mike Snyder and Matt Anderson.
